An ossuary engraved with the Greek names “Alexander Simonus (CIMWNOC)” =”Alexander, son of Simon” or “Alexander and Simon”, as well as with an inscription in Hebrew: אלכסנדרוס קרנית”” = Alexander of Cyrene (Libya). Simon is probably “Simon of Cyrene”, the man who was commanded to help Jesus carrying the cross. Mark 15:21 identifies Simon as “the father of Alexander and Rufus”. Roman period, first century AD
